Requirements for adoption of pets:


Cats:
1) Must be 6 weeks of age or older
2) If stray or of uncertain history, must be kept for at least 5 days in approved foster care to determine if cat has an owner or is sick
3) If older than 3 months, must have FeLV test unless up to date on FeLV vaccinations.
4) If >6 wk old or not current with vaccinations, after 5 days the cat will be vaccinated for distemper (FVRCP) vaccination and dewormed. If older than 3 months, will be given distemper, rabies vaccination and dewormed.
5) Intact cats >6 months will be altered if not adopted within 3 weeks

Dogs:
1) Must be 6 weeks of age or older
2) If stray or of uncertain history, must be kept for at least 5 days in approved foster care or city kennel (Cimeroc if from Morris) to determine if dog has an owner or is sick.
3) If >6 wk old or not current with vaccinations, after 5 days the dog will be given distemper/parvo (DHLPPC) vaccination and dewormed. If older than 3 months, will be vaccinated for distemper, rabies and dewormed.
4) If not current on heartworm prevention or status unknown, all adult dogs and all puppies >4 months born during mosquito season (May-Nov) will be tested for heartworm.
5) Intact dogs >6 months old will be altered if not adopted within 3 weeks
