Meet Slim!

Update

Slim became healthy enough to be placed for adoption. A golden retriever society took in Slim and placed him in a wonderful foster situation. Slim is now happy and healthy and living with a family who loves him.

October Update

Slim has gained a whopping twenty-one pounds since he came to the Humane Society! He is doing very well and is in foster care. Slim was positive for heartworm and so has been receiving treatment. He has two more treatements (2 and 4 months from now) to completely eradicate the heartworm. We at the SCHS are impressed at what a beautiful dog Slim is becoming. He loves people but can be a little food protective. In terms of adoption, Slim may be best suited for a family without little children. He has never tried to bite anyone but his foster family reports that he is a little protective about his food and attention. Slim seems to be pretty well potty-trained and is ready for adoption!

September Update
Here is a picture of Slim in jail. He has a modified elizabethan collar on because he kept banging it into everything and cracking it. He was licking at his staples so we put an e-collar on him last week. He didn't even seem to notice the big plastic thing on his head. We are going to take the staples out tomorrow morning so he'll lose the lampshade. His surgery sites are healing nicely and he's starting to gain some weight. Through it all, Slim is a trooper and is really good-natured!

Slim arrived at the Stevens Community Humane Society in August 2006. He was filthy, extremely underweight (about 35 pounds under), and walked with a limp. It was discovered that Slim had a very bad fracture. When surgery was performed, the fracture was even worse than previously believed--the scar tissue that had accumulated made repairing the fracture impossible. So, Slim has had his leg amputated. He is getting around nicely and has one of the most energetic and sweet temperaments we have seen. Slim has tested positive for heartworm and needs to put on some more weight before he can be treated. The doctor is optimistic about Slim's chances for recovery. Periodic updates about Slim will be posted here. For now, a few photos are below.
