Adoptions

Help find a forever home for a special animal today! By adopting from our shelter, you are not only earning a new friend, but you are making a difference and helping us with controlling the stray cat population. Our dog adoption fee is $300, our adult (spayed/neuter) cat adoption fee is $150.
WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT TO DECLAW
If you are interested in adopting a pet, please fill out an adoption application and our building manager will be in contact with you!

Please Note:

  • We are not affiliated with the National Humane Society

  • We work with animals on a case-by-case basis

  • Some of our services are subject to the amount of grant funding that is available

  • Our organization is entirely volunteer led. Because of this, some of our services and availability are subject to change

Impounding: Procedures & Practices

If you find a stray dog:

Please contact the sheriff's office or the police department in your community

    Morris Police Non-Emergency Number: 320.208.6500

SCHS currently contracts with Stevens County Sheriff's Office and the Morris Police Department for the impounding of stray animals.

If you find a stray cat:

You can contact SCHS and leave a message and the building manager will be able to answer questions and give instruction about what next steps to take.

Stevens Community Humane Society will attempt to locate or contact the owner. After five days, they legally become a part of SCHS and will be in our care until a new home is found. Impound fees may apply when claiming a stray animal, the building manager also has the right to ask for proof of ownership before releasing the animal.

Please Note: Only in very specific situations can our organization assist in picking up certain stray animals.

Please contact us with questions and to further discuss assisting details

Surrendering Animals

Here at SCHS, we want to be able to provide as much help and support to the community as we can. Because of this, we do take in animals to assist families in rehoming. However, because of our limited resources we are only able to do this on a case-by-case basis. Please fill out our Pet Surrender Form or call our building to receive more information about our surrender fees and procedures.

Spay & Neuter

Stevens Community Humane Society provides spay and neuter options for the community when funds are available
Spaying and Neutering your pets is important to help reduce pet homelessness, it helps with your pet's health and can also help curb costs of taking care of your pets.
